We have a team, How ’bout a song?

May 16th, 2006 | By: Soze | 6 Comments »

So we have a team, what we need now is a good anthem. Several have popped up over the past few weeks, and more are sure to come. Here are a few that are receiving airplay on Croatian radio.

Song 1. - Oda za tri boda

Song 2. - Srce Vatreno

Song 3. - Mi Hrvati

Song 4. - Zuja je Zakon

On a previous post, Tomislav had suggested this song with great lyrics:

Thompson - Lijepa Li Si

Maybe we should be following the lead of the Portuguese team and use something like the ambiguous ‘Portugal Allez’ they sing at every game and have been using for as long as I can remember, or maybe we should be following the lead of the Brazilians who just bring a massive party atmosphere to the games with samaba music. All I know is that I really dislike every single NT anthem that seems to be popular in Croatia, they all sound like primitive war cries. Let’s see if you guys have a good solution.

See what effect the EU has on nations. Remember the great music coming out of Croatia in the nineties, where did this style go?

I know, they have been booted out because they are too much like Croatia and not enough like the rest of Europe.

Your right soze, the songs are all crap! Except the beer add song and ljepa Li Si of course.

BTW, thanks for the mention.

P.S. Croatia and EU, it just makes no sense to me….
My apologies in advance for swaying off football and into politics but someone has to do it. 

Cheers for the songs!

They may sound like war cries, but the Worldcup is about a fight on the pitch to the end!

In New Zealand, the Croatian supporters will gather in Auckland in full strength at the following 3 venues to support our team:

Northern Steamship Company Bar, Quay Street (a huge bar/club in downtown Auckland which will be our headquarters for the whole cup and will attract most of the younger supporters). Big screen projector, Cro music/videos and cheap drinks for Croatian supporters for each game.

Central Croatia United FC, Kiwitea Street, Mt Albert.

Croatian Cultural Society, McLeod Road, Te Atatu.

If any of you others out there are organising events in your country for the world cup, then why not post details on here so that everyone can see what we are all doing for our team and let local people know where to join in the action.

Bog,

Niko

First off,I’m stoked that I found this site. Good commentary from around the world, its good to see that. Love seeing that Croat passion. Thanks to Soze and friends for keeping us Croats informed as to what is going on with the national team.I think we’re all excited about the prospects of our national teams chances in the coming World Cup. Just wanted to say that you can’t beat Ljepa Li Si, the words express the sentiment that all Croatians have for their country. Thompson sings it with an incredible amount of feeling and spirit. Anyway Tomislav’, your right on with your commentary and Pegasus’ - its good to hear that back home people do sing/chant the song at football matches.

Thanks Tome.

I have put in for Croatian citizenship so I’m ready to make a NO or (NE) vote for Croatia joining the EU referendum.

If any Croats (or anyone) are interested the Australian Sports Tab has Croatia at 81/1 odds to win the world cup. Not a bad investment if you ask me. I have a few hundred on. I can smell the cash already.
