The Sun: Kranjcar is a drunk.
And we wonder why Scolari did not want to go to England. This kind of shoddy journalism is the staple of the English press. Follow the link to a rediculous article in The Sun that seems to be more about filling space than responsible writing.

It will be great to get ours payback against England if the draw allows it just as we did against Germany in the 90’s
But to keep it in perspective with the past we will be defeating England 5-0

Character assassination by a rag not worth much more than using in an outhouse. The drunk label was employed because there’s nothing else to hang on Zlatko. There’s a huge difference between enjoying a glass of wine and being an alcoholic.

Let him drink all he wants. He can drink on the bench for all I care. Look at his record since taking over. Screw that Im goin drink for him right now. Hes not the one playing out there. Let him get hammered.

England was never a fan of Croatia, and look to put down the team and country.
They really should look no further to their own national side. Which has been mired in gambling and drinking scandals.
They may ponder, Kranjcar Jr. selection. But as least he has played in the 10 qualifying matches. While an unknown-never played in the premership–Walcott has been included in the national side. Now that’s something they should be scratching their heads about.

relax, guys. after all, this is the yellow press über-tabloid “the sun,” you know — they sell their newspaper by writing that way. the good thing is that they don’t discriminate — everyone’s their target, including the overrated english team. we have such crap in croatia as well.
besides, “boozer” is not the same as “drunkard,” if you quote, quote correctly.

Webster’s dictionary definition of boozer-a person that drinks to excess. Drunk or drunkard-an intoxicated person or a person who is frquently drunk. The terms are generally used interchangably to describe a person with a drinking problem. The point being thatthe article smears the image of Zlatko Kranjcar without foundation. The article leaves the impression that Mr. Kranjcar has that problem. The whole tone of the article is to try to portray a negative image of items related to the team. It doesn’t refer to Niko’s success that legitmizes his choice as a player on the team leaving the impression that he is only there through his father. Having this garbage journalism in Croatia or anywhere does not mean that it shouldn’t be pointed out for what it is in an open forum such as this is, and that the article is a hatchet job. The title itself points that out. These rags had started out revealing the personal lives of people and now use their platform to insult and disparage whoever they want for whatever reasons usually without recourse to the person they attack. I believe people are relaxed and comment on what the article dealing with the NT and its coach says because of the negative impression it tries to pedal to the world and shouldn’t that commentary be done? Croatians can now defend themselves in many arenas now that during previous times was not the case and I applaud anyone that uses an opportunity to do that.

Kapcro,
You make a good legal argument here. Maybe Niko and the HNS can sue the Sun for deformation.
You could be their lawyer Kapcro.

Unfortunately, in many countries persons in the limelight cannot take recourse against this type of publicity. The fact that they are public figures gives the media carte blanche to use them whenever they wish as punching bags as for as the law is concerned. Sadly there is a voracious appetite for scandal, gossip and character assassination out in the world be it true or not. Only in cases where monetary damage or damage of another nature can be proven have courts sided with those injured by personal media attacks and those cases are few.
