Croatia vs. Iran: The Opinion

May 28th, 2006 | By: Soze | 99 Comments »

PrsoWhat an awful game Croatia played. To have that many chances in front of the net and not be able to capitalize on them is not the way to train for the world cup. I am so sick and tired of people saying that these friendly games mean nothing. Whenever a team looses it’s “who cares, these game is not important”. When they win it’s “We will win the Cup!!”…

If these games ment nothing, no one would be playing them. The england blogger Shawn is a prime example. England Team B ????(with Owen, Lampard, Crouch, Walcott and James on the pitch) lost to a 10 man Belarus and he basically blew it off to ‘who cares’..If they would have won, I bet he would have been proclaiming their world superiority. And it’s not only him. I read the English media as well giving the same opinion.

Well, here is my opinion of the Croatia vs. Iran game. We tied. Luckily. If it was not for one of the most corrupt referees in Croatia, we would have lost. This was Željko Širić’s final game as a referee. He is 46 years old and the Croatian FA gave him this game as a present to deligate as his exit, and in return he gave them a draw.

He disallowed a goal in the 35th minute that would have given Iran the lead. He called offside where there was none. An aditional 5 minutes at the end of the second half??? For what?..A gift to the Croatian side. And finally, he awarded a penalty kick to Croatia in the 94th minute citing a foul on a player by the Iranian golie. Not so. Olic slipped by himself. Travesty.

Croatia had 6 or 7 very good chances to score in the first half but could not. They were trying to do here what they did against Austria but these are two different teams. Austria has the quality of a third division team and Iran is in the World Cup. A small difference, no?. ..Iran’s defence is much better. Our defence, on the other hand was out getting sandwiches during the game. The first goal by Iran should not be possible against a team that is in the WC. Karimi dribbled around three Croatian defenders to lightly place the ball into the net.

The second half was saw a much slower game, but a still incapable Croatia. Unused chances and a really bad play by Tokić while trying to pass the ball to Šimić basically gave the ball to Borhani who scored. That is two shots on goal , and two goals by Iran. I usually give some idea of which Croatian players did well, but I refuse to do this here. They all need a stern talking to.

The croatian media is already declaring how this match is not important and the score is not important. OK. Don’t look at the score then, but instead, look at the pathetic display Croatia gave today.

Our friend Afshin, the Iran blogger, is happy with the outcome, and he should be. Iran took the chances given to them and played a better game.

Some Player reactions:
NIKO KRANJČAR:
We were not in top form. We made alot of mistakes, and it’s better they happened today than in Germany.

MARIO TOKIĆ:
I did not see the Iranian player there and that is why I passed back the pall. Again, better today than in Germany but I think that this one mistake will not throw away all the good I’ve done till now.

IVAN KLASNIĆ:
The legs were heavy, we did not play well and the ball was very fast. Sometimes, we could not even see where it was. We did not play the same as agains Austria but we have been training a little harder these past few days.

You make your own conclusins from these comments, I have already made mine.

Posted this on the wrong site, so I just copied it over to the Cro site, thought it was more relevent here.

I watched the Iran game in full yesterday, and was pretty disappointed in a two players, being Niko Kranjcar & Igor Tudor.
Niko is just too slow, he seems a step off the pace all the time. In the Iran game he was never first to the ball and lost out on most challanges. He is supposed to be creative, that’s a laugh, how can he create anything when he is too slow and never gets the ball.
Secondly, Igor Tudor looks like a big, hulking, slow giant. Midfield is just not his position, and its little wonder Juventus let him go to Siena. Again, just too slow and always late in challanges. I just hope he doesn’t mark-up on Ronaldinho, as he will run rings around Tudor. A real problem here, but I thought that Modric & Vranjes played well when they came on.
I definitely think we should replace Niko with Modric, and Tudor with Vranjes. Otherwise Brazil will just eat us alive.

“Prso is not catholic but he still calls himself Croatian.”

He calls himseld Croatian because every Serb had to switch sides or there throats were slit by Franjo Sranjo. Prsos nephew plays for the youth teams of Scg. Next you will be saying Ivanisevic and Petrovic wernt Serbs either ahhahahah

“BTW if Tesla was born in Serbia / Montenegro he would have become the 20th century best goat herder and nothing else!”

You mean like Bane Jalecic who born in Serbia???…………Oh wait you dont know Bane Jelacic is do ya???

Ban Josip Jelacic was born in Novi Sad in 1800’s which at the time had a majority Croatian and Hungarian population. The Serbs only moved into Vojvodina after the Second World War when it was annexed by the Serbs during that time they removed the Croatian and Hungarian populations. Up until this time Vojvodina never was a part of Serbia.

Do not try to get me on history Crno you will lose.

BTW I don’t see anyone holding a knife at Prso throat today…. I’m not even going to bother with this anymore. We don’t have to prove a thing to you crno!

Crno I am shore you have a very accurate source for your statements. It must be the same person who told you Tony Popovic had Serbian heritage or any of the other crap you have stated on this site.
Crno have you ever heard of Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, im shore you might have caught him on the news during the 1990’s. These animals “only” ordered and carried out the mass murder of Croatians (and Bosnians) during the war.
Crno again I stress again stop writing your propaganda crap on this site, for you are only making yourself look like an uneducated wanker.

Popovic is a very common Serbian name Milane. I was mistaken and Im man enough to admit it. Can you admit Petrovic, Ivanisevic, Prosinecki, Rapaic, Prso, Balaban are Serbs now?? Of cors you cant…… As for Vojvodina been mostly Croat land…………..Sure it was lol. Vojvodina and especially Novi Sad was always populated by Serbs and Hungarians. Bane Jelacic infact was half Serb….So your greatest freedom fighter, had Serb blood. Joj, can Croats live with this fact????? Your dream of been accepted as Germans is now over…….Aj Zaplacite malo molim vas lol

Crno,

Why do you insist on bringing up politics on this board? What started off as a discussion of Croatia’s play against Iran has now degraded into who is Serb and who is not, and a painful war that took place in the 90’s. Bringing up these issues ruins it for everyone—regardless of one’s nationality…we are all here to discuss the beautiful game…..

Crno, you are entitled to your opinion regarding these issues. We all know your beliefs. But this is not a forum for you to vent your political discontent. You’ve repeated yourself on numerous occasions, and it seems as though you are looking create confrontation and agitation more than anything else.

Quite frankly, I don’t care who was Serb and who is not, nor do I waste my time thinking about the past. The present is the most important thing for me, as I know when I arrive in Croatia I can freely kiss the ground knowing that this is a sovereign nation.

To everyone, please ignore Crno’s Pro-Yugoslav comments. By replying to them, you are simply taking his bait and falling into his frame—as he is looking to irritate us and stir up conflict. Simply stay on the current topic and don’t pay attention to them.
