Croatia vs. Austria

May 23rd, 2006 | By: Soze | 11 Comments »

Hi all, sorry about the lapse in blogs, I had some other commitments impede my ability to get in front of a computer. Nevertheless, I am here and on to business at hand.

Today in Vienna at 20:30, Croatia is playing against Austria in the first of their full roster of friendly matches. The formation will be the usual 3-4-1-2 and the starting 11 will be: Pletikosa - Tomas, Robert Kovač, Šimić - Srna, Niko Kovač, Tudor, Babić - Kranjčar - Pršo, Klasnić. Cico Kranjčar is still not sure how he will use his 6 available substitutions although he has stated that he will try a different formation, 4-4-2, at some point during the match.

The current Austrian team is comprised of manly young players and I think that the match will be good to see the fitness level of Croatia’s NT. Austria is getting their squad together for the EC2008 qualifying so I don’t think this will be a walk in the park seeing as they want to see what they are capable of, as well.

A text version of the match can be followed here.

The live radio brodcast can be found here under HR2.

How can Croatia lose this game? Remember when Austria lost at home to Canada?

[...] Ivan Klasnic scored a pair of first half goals to life Croatia past Austria 4-1 in a friendly played in Vienna. Marko Babic and Bosko Balaban added the other goals as Croatia looked solid in a tune up for the World Cup. The 42-ranked Austria team was short on experience and mustered a lone goal by Andreas Ivanschitz in the 14th minute. The most impressive thing about this is that blog read Marco nailed the score with his prediction. We’ll be asking Marco for World Cup betting advice for sure. Yes Marko your overly-emotional and demeaning little portrayal of Croatia’s chances in the WC may come to pass. They may play three fine teams and simply view the rest of the tournament as outsiders. And if that happens the sun will rise and set and Croatians will be glad for the team’s efforts. But, then again they may succeed and move on. Will you be back to congratulate them and apologize for your incorrect asssessment? I think not. Only someone with true character could do that, but then someone with character wouldn’t post such worthless commentary. Croatia still has a chance to win while you, with your rude little remark has shown to those coming here that you’re hardly worth paying attention to and so you have already lost. This friendly must have really gotten under your skin to have prompted you to leave such an indepth analysis and well thoughtout appraisal. Please do keep us abreast throughout the tournament of your expertise and pearls of wisdom.
