Well, there it is. Croatia’s world cup campaign comes to a close. Over the past few months I have expressed my opinion about the team, it’s players and the coach. After this game, with an outcome that I fully expected, I was thinking what to write, but then saw a post by ‘Coaches Son’ that I completely agree with. So instead of giving my match report, I will paste below the post that CS wrote.

Certainly the best team deserved to win based on tonight and the previous 2 matches. Cro was beaten by a team with less technical ability but double the effort and heart.Croatia has got a real problem now. Dado is 31, Niko K is 34 and guys like Igor Tudor are the oldest 29 year old i’ve seen in my life. I hope Cico gets the ass and some serious rebuilding starts.

We need a coach like Hiddink who has a strategy and plays to it. We need a coach who isn’t under the gun to get immediate results, because it will take time to build a good side with young players. There’s some good young guys in that squad, but someone has to build a good team of 11 players and stop hoping that one of 11 players is going to win matches in the future.

Maybe even Niko Kranjcar will be one of these future stars when he doesn’t take his place in the side for granted.

We gotta stop talking about the team of ‘98 & accept the fact that more hard work is needed at this level to progress. Teams like Japan and Australia are catching up & even overtaking us.

Overall, it was disappointing watching 11 guys playing against one team. No wonder we couldn’t break them down.

Well said CS, well said. Incidentaly, a little over a month ago, I said that I was going to meet someone whose opinion would probably be the one that should be listened to. That person was Davor Suker. A very knowlegeable man when it comes to WC performance, and he had the same opinion as CS.

(Croatians were much more…) Yes intelligence is truely related to how one refers to oneself, the proposition itself is pure genius. Yugo… was such a popular appelation that the leftovers of that former entity tossed the name and found it a useless characterization.

hey guys its me, anonymous. Sorry havnt been on for a while, did you guys see how we beat england 2-0?? woot woot oh yea.
Ok then, i admit, the goals against england weren’t that spectacular. The first one was because the goalie was too far forward and the second was an own goal!! haha shame on them. The reason why Robinson (the english goalie) missed the ball is because it jumped up just as he tried to kick it. This was actually Pletikosa’s fault because in the first half when he was on that side he dug a little hole into the ground so that when he does kicks they go higher, so when the ball came to Robinson it went exactly over the hole and jumped up and then went into the goal. haha.

hey ‘actual true croatian’ and ‘true croat’ stop arguing over something that was settled 14 years ago. Croatia wanted independence, yugoslavians and serbs didnt like that, there was a lot of bang-bang, and croatia had independence. that’s that.
