Croatia 0: 1 Poland
$#*&. What a crap game. Do you guys realize that we only had one…ONE!!! attempt on goal. It was in like the 80th minute. I have nothing to say about the game. Zlatko Kranjcar said it all. The mysterious Kremsnite affair did not really have an impact in the end on the players. The only one who did not play was Dado and I suspect this was more to rest his knees than because of a stomach virus.
This game proved two things. 1) We have no hope in hell of exiting the group stage without Dado Prso. 2) the Mirror was right.
Our NT did however play a friendly on Sunday as well against an ‘all star’ team and won 5:0. The all star team consisted of, amongst others, Ardian Kozniku, Robert Špehar, brothers Tomislav and Marijo Marić and former German international Fredi Bobic. The goal scorers for Croatia were Ivica Olić (15), Ivan Leko (19), Boško Balaban (65), Luka Modrić (70) and Ivan Klasnić (86).
Oh, and I now have to ship a bottle of Ice Wine to OS Davis, our friend the Poland blogger thanks to Croatias wonderful performance. I’m glad we did not go any further with our betting.

Prso was not the only one not playing Niko Kovac also wasn’t in along with Tudor. Plus there were about 4 or five substitutions to put in players such as Buljat, Bosnjak, and some other bench players in the game.

whoever wrote this entry did not see this game. And if he did he mustve been drinking something good. One chance on goal. THe Poles had one chance on goal and they put it in. The Croats dominated the entire game and played alot better than they did against Iran. One attempt, Olic, Klasnic, and Kranjcar had chances in the first half, along with Srna who hit the crossbar on a free kick. Dominated the second half as well, Bosnjak shouldve had 2 goals himself. Do yourself and all of us a favor, if you didnt see a game, dont come on here and analyze or criticize anyone.

I was talking about the players that had the stomach virus. Tudor and Kovac were known no-shows.

I saw the game. I thought croatia had some good sequences no finish even in the iran game the forwards were not on the same page as the mids. What did u guys think of Simunics play? I know he just came from an injury i think and i havent seen him play in a while but he seemed really off like as if he had never played with any of these guys before. Hopefully he will get into shape. I like the way Simic has been playing but he does get lazy from time to time but i find that he has been playing better than in qualification round. Without Niko K and Tudor in the D mid role this team doesnt flow the same way. These two players play tough and its hard for players to get threw them let alone the actual d line. Plus these two arent the most creative which means they look to tic tac toe the ball around for open people instead of taking too many risks. They remind me of conservative point guards in bball. This team is tough when at full strength scoring has always been a problem im hoping Klasnic will address that but he needs to be ready for the plays.

There’s always gotta be one guy here that thinks just because he defends Croatia on any level makes him a better Croatian. EH MARTY??.
I saw the game, it sucked. WE DOMINATED??? HOW??..WE LOST. Just because you keep some sort of feeble ball possesion does not mean we dominated the game.
This kind of domination is gonna get us eliminated in group play. You mentioned that Olic, Klasnic, and Kranjcar had chances in the first half. You’re right…but chances and shots on net are two very DIFFERENT things. And you’re right, Srna did hit the cross bar..so sorry, TWO shots on net.
Do us all a favour Marty, buy youreslf an objective opinion. We played poorly. Every poorly executed shot we had went wide, high or nowhere near the net. My basis for good play in a WC is the ‘98 team..and this play is nowhere near that.
Here is a prediction for you..IF we play like this, Brazil and Japan are going through. I hate to say it and I;m gonna hate seeing it, but it’s gonna happen.

Hey!!! You know we the CROATIAN FANS gotta think positive. Yes it was luck for poland becayse Croatia usualy plays way better then that. So it doesnt mean croatia sucks, it means they had a bad game. Yes, I know you cant have bad games in the world cup cuz they will get you eliminated but, I think we should give the team some credit, they try hard..and you can see they want to win.
We all know croatia is the better team, how could we beat argentina?? How could we tie against brazil?? I know the answer!!! Because Croatia is a freaking awesome soccer team, THATS why!!! Poland was having a good day, so who cares!! If we play them again in the world cup, croatia will beat he shit out of them.
Peope GET SOME DARN CROATIAN Pride!! The world cup is about to start and you guys are all complaining how bad we did..
remember, when it comes to importnant games croatia will play good, they always do because they are much more concentrated and they show much more pride for the team. Plus in the world cup Croatia will have more support then Brazil, so I say Croatia will be the winning team. any croatian to disagree is not a real Croatian.. Screw the statistics.
We are croatians one of the most feared soccer teams in the world.
Poland??? lol Poland is a joke to the croatian!! Remember who won the bronze medal!! Yes Croatia and this year we will go even farther..All Im saying now is” FORGET THE POLAND GAME”!! Concentrate on the wold cup, and spain in couple of days..We are going to beat spain..you know why??? Cuz we R Croatians homy!!
Show some damn PRIDE!!! And support the team!!
Forza Croatia
Hey I got a little carried away, but you guys get the point..

Denis> “remember, when it comes to importnant games croatia will play good, they always do because they are much more concentrated and they show much more pride for the team”
They proved that at the last WC huh?

i can’t remmeber much about the last world cup except we had the italians on ice…and olic would have scored another goal except he was on the sideline trying to put his shirt back on…
i think we lift for the big games but get relaxed against the lesser teams

Pride won’t win you many games, but skill will.
Look, lets get our best team on the field, including Niko Kovac, Tudor and Prso and then see how we go in a REAL game. Friendlies don’t give a true indication on a teams performance. If we bomb out against Brazil & Japan then you guys can bag them out, but not before.

Denis
hahahahahahahahahah hahahahahahahahahaha, what are you going to say now, croatia is better than argentina????? you are a clown, poland got beat by colombia and then they beat you, why talk crap when you dont need to.
By the way I dont dis like croatia i actually like them, suker was one of my favorite, but this clown called DENIS came to the argentina site, and started talking so much bull, that i just had to state some facts. nothing against croatia, but everything against this weirdo called denis

Messay, yeah his passion is interesting, but then again, we got a full bag of ‘em here. There’s nothing wrong with a little trash talk, especially 3…3!!!!! days before the WC.
Milane> I think you’re rigt. We do lift for big games and always seem to give Italy a hard time. Argentina, Brazil..it’s great. And then we loose to Mexico and Ecuador..oh the pain.

If Croatia can beat Brazil than I truly believe Croatia and Australia will get through to the next round. If we lose to Brazil than I think it will be very difficult for Croatia to make it.
It will be Australia and Brazil getting the required points.
Why?
1. Due to the performance of the team the last two friendly matches losing to Brazil will wreck the team confidence and almost certainly ensure Croatia draw or even lose to Japan and Australia.
2. Australia should beat Japan and we could see Brazil fail to score vs Australia given Schwarzers performance in goals.
3. (The positive side). Croatia beat Brazil than go on to beat Japan and either win or draw against Australia.
Even if Australia beats Croatia point 2 should see Australia and Croatia get through.
A win against Brazil is very very important for Croatia to have a chance the way currently see it.

Yeah, as far as our confidence is concerned, we need to beat spain. Slovak nations are often called Sunshine Footballers, because if we defeat a great team we will rise up above all otherbut if we start losing, we just just play very poorly. There ere acouple excuses for the Poland match. This Wenesday though we need to come out strong and we need to win at the very least a tie. I mean its Spain a tie is ver y good result, but a win is prefered.

For those of you able to read croatian here’s an interesting article about how it won’t be positive, whether Croatia loses the Span-match or wins:

I’m also from NZ soze and I
certainly didn’t see the game so
I have no idea how you could
possibly know anything about the game, and you obviously don’t. Are you a fellow Croat?
Yes, not a great result but we
are capable of much better and
friendlies are only that.

New Zealand

How did you see the game soze?
Sattelite? We all want Croatia
to be the best team but lets be
realistic and also support the team, unlike the croatian sports
writers who are trying very hard
to upset team morale as usual.
I’m happy just to see them at the WC but I also have high hopes that at their best they will deliver results and get to
the 2nd phase.But Australia have
a team equal of our 98 squad and they will be really hard to beat unfortunately.

Richard> I am not in NZ. I’m in Canada. I saw the game on a satellite channel called Setanta Sports. It is a closed circut TV station for subscribers.
I am a fellow Croat and very proud of it..so I feel it absolutely necessary to say when we play badly. I do not think our media has been speaking negatively of our NT. There have only been some peices on Niko Kranjcar and his lack of play shape…other than that, the media has been supportive even in the face of most of Croatia and their criticism of Cico and his tactics as of late.
I am supportive, and I really have to keep my hopes up with the kind of play we have seen lately, but lets face it…one also has to be realistic..unlike those Argentineans and their blog who are all in a love-fest over there no matter how their team does.

Hey soze, it says you’re posting from new zealand.Strange
It’s really hard to see games down here so all my info comes
from the internet and relatives.
They tell me that the tv stations have been hard on cico.
Croats are so demanding, the 98
team has made it hard for everyone that follows them.We expect so much but the fact is
Sweden haven’t won a game since
qualifying and Argentina had lost or drawn 6 before playing us so maybe we’re a bit blinded by results that may not be so
impressive after all.I still believe this is the best squad
since 98 but I wish Da Silva was
there for more firepower.Olic and Balaban worry me a bit up front and Tomas and Tokic are
not world class I believe. To be
honest I was fuming after the
Poland game, we should have
smashed them if we’re as good as
I’m led to believe.But I won’t
read into friendlies, I never have.

Stumbled across this site by accident (actually looking for Top Croatian Goalscorers to put potentially in a Dream Team Competition!). Couldn’t help but read some of the comments; seems EVERY nation thinks it’s team COULD win the World Cup…and EVERY country has it’s pessimists! But for an injection of ‘realism’ from a long term soccer fan/follower of world football please note;
This is how I think the various groups will pan out:
GROUP A 1st Germany
2nd Poland
GROUP B 1st England
2nd Sweden
GROUP C 1st Argentina
2nd Holland
(though Ivory Coast & Serbia-Montenegro could surprise!)
GROUP D 1st Portugal
2nd Mexico
GROUP E 1st/2nd ITALY
& Czech Republic
(not sure which order…but Ghana won’t be easy!)
GROUP F 1st Brazil
2nd Croatia
GROUP G 1st France
2nd Switzerland
(though Swiss shouldn’t be underestimated!)
GROUP H 1st/2nd SPAIN &
Ukraine (close!!)
In the next phase Germany v Sweden will be VERY close.
England will beat Poland
Argentina will beat Mexico
Holland will beat Portugal
SPAIN or Ukraine (depending on who tops their Group!)to bt Switzerland
Which leaves France to play either Spain or UKRAINE (depending on which one is runner-up in their Group)..close call!
That then leaves Brazil to play
Italy or CZECH REPUBLIC
with Croatia v the other one (ITALY or Czechs…ie the winner of the Group stage)
Also very close!
QUARTER FINALS
England v Holland: very close!
could go to extra time - but don’t be surprised if England nick it!
Argentina will beat winner of Germany v Sweden
Then you have winner of BRAZIL v CZECHS/Italy against the winners of the FRANCE v UKRAINE/Spain match.
Which then leaves the winner of the CROATIA v the other one from ITALY/Czech to play the other one from SPAIN/Ukraine
**I’ve highlighted the most probably teams to meet!
SEMI-FINALS
By this stage it’s anybody’s guess!! But if I stick my neck out I reckon it could be as follows;
England v Brazil
Argentina v Italy
To be honest I think the Argies will almost certainly be there, and probable FINALISTS! I think the winner of the potential England/Holland game CAN (though not necessarily WILL) beat Brazil (as could Italy/Czechs in the quarter-Finals!).
So - REALLY STICKING MY NECK OUT -I’m gonna say England v Argentina final……..
what do you all think of THAT then?!!!!!!!!
