He’s Fine, Don’t Worry About It

May 9th, 2009 | By: Mario | 5 Comments »

Funny thing happened. Apparently, Ivica Olic was browsing through the net and stumbled upon news that he had just tore his knee ligaments and was gonna be sidelined for the next 6 to 9 months.

Yeah I admit, I’d give a few bucks to witness the “Oh S***” expression on Olic’s face at the exact moment. But to cut the silly story short, the doc over at the HSV hospital made a simple (mistake) presumption which found its way to a well known German magazine faster then you can say: Hey, my leg’s all fine and dandy. But all’s well that ends well, and after this little scare we’re all happy that Olic is good to go for Ukraine.

As for Krizanac, well this one unfortunately comedy-free. He broke his toe during a training session and no news on when exactly he’s due to return have been reported. It’s a major blow for Bilic, as Krizanac has been constantly preforming with Zenit over the last couple of seasons, and has been a solid performer for Croatia whenever called upon. Robert Kovac will likely step up to fill the gap, returning from his 3 match ban.

Krizanac is produced by the Polish league (random, I know ;P). It’s nice to hear him doing so well.

Random is welcome :)
But yeah, he has definitely had his share of exotic leagues so far in his career. I wonder what he’ll do this summer when his contract expires (if I recall right). I reckon he’s got a few more years of quality football left in him.

Played most of his football in Poland. He was incredible in the Polish league (I remember him), though that doesn’t really say all that much.
Still, it’s really cool to hear him doing so well for Zenit, and hell, he even got national caps. That’s really rare for foreign players in the Polish league.

BTW I’m happy you got back Mario. I liked your articles, and the Croatia national team. They’re always doing so well. I’m happy at least one team can represent Eastern Europe (After mine country, Poland, fails once again…)

Cheers Tomek, nice to hear that :)
But I wouldn’t be so negative about Poland’s chances to qualify for 2010. Your group’s pretty tight, and there’s loads of crucial matches to be played yet. Hell, we ain’t looking that sure of making it either :)

And now that you mention the Polish league and Krizanac, I guess it has been a while since I last heard quality things coming from some of your top clubs. That’s one more thing our countries have in common: somewhat poor league standards but relatively successful national teams.
