Eduardo’s nightmare: 15 months

March 6th, 2008 | By: fitz | 1 Comment »

According to an article on ESPN’s SoccerNet, Eduardo is preparing for a return during a World Cup qualifying match against England.

That would be the second one.

For the uninitiated, Eduardo suffered a gruesome injury in a club match for Arsenal vs. Birmingham City on Feb. 24. I will not show you pictures or video. He’s out of Euro 2008 and for the beginning of World Cup qualifying.

He spoke to the Croatian paper Jutarnji. He revealed that he’s getting various timetables, the worst of which is 15 months. That’s a long time — I can usually get two, maybe three dates in that span.

The link to the article is here.

We all know this loss sucks for the Croats. Still, I’m from the school that you’re better off losing a scoring threat than you are, say, a key defensive organizer. That’s not diminishing Eduardo’s impact; I’m just saying Croatia can overcome this.

Floor’s open. Discuss.

Think I agree. Obviously Eduardo’s goals are important, but losing a defensive lynchpin like Robert Kovač would make Croatia easier to beat. Arguably someone else can step up and score the goals (Petrić?)but if Kovač got injured then Slaven Bilić himself might have to strap his boots back on!
