Eduardo Update

May 21st, 2009 | By: Mario | 5 Comments »

Yesterday afternoon a certain Niek van Dijk of Amsterdam performed a routine surgical procedure (oxymoron if you ask me) on our Eduardo, removing the leftover metal parts in his ankle. So besides the fact he’s now less Terminator, the removal of these parts is just a signal that Eduardo’s ankle is now as fully recovered and once he sits out through the latest recovery period (4-6 weeks apparently), he’ll be good to go.

Note that while this procedure was in the end inevitable, it was decided that it’d be best that he performs it now, as he’s already off the pitch due to an injury suffered earlier in the month. Sort of like killing 2 birds with one stone (awful saying that). So it’s good news in the end.

And now for something completely different, and it’s actually another bit of good news. This one comes from Turkey, as our own Darijo Srna led his Shakthar to a their first ever European title, attained through a 2:1 win over Werder Bremen. Darijo was as persistent and annoying to his adversaries down that right side as ever, capping his appearance with a superb assist to what has proved to be the winning goal in the end. A captains performance, no more and no less.

Do notice how the flag colors on Darijo’s back match with that of the trophy. More please. Bravo Darijo!

I think I have a man-crush on Eduardo. Is that ok?

Ukraine love Dario at the moment. Lets hope he gives them reason to hate him come June 6th.

I love the offseason as much as I love the football season. I love reading about all the possible moves that our Croatian boys might make. … I have read that all these are possible this summer…

Kranjcar to Arsenal? ….
Pranjic to Liverpool? …
Rakitic to Juve? …
Srna to AC Milan? …
Kalinic to Palermo….

Im sure there will be a ton more come June.

@Seth: :D

@Ivan: Aye, it’s gonna be a wild summer transfer wise. Off all the names you’ve mentioned, I think Pranjic’ll be the first to move, and I sincerely hope Srna changes his mind and tries a new challenge.

Mario, I have been expecting Srna to move for the past 3 years. He seems happy to stay with Shakhtar. He gets to play in the champions league every year so theres little reason for him to move. But I agree with you, it would be nice to see him move to a bigger club. Maybe with the Uefa Cup win, this will be the right time for a new challenge.

@Ivan: Yeah, it does seem he has it all at Donetsk: CL every year, fans love him and the cash ain’t bad either. But I hope he’s not the kind of character who’d settle for just that, when there are bigger challenges waiting just down the street. Time will tell I guess, let’s hope he has the guts(or common sense) to do the right thing.
