Bring It On…Not

Well, that was a rather underwhelming performance from our boys against Hungary. We started furiously, but after 8 minutes (!?), we…well …we sucked. End of story.

Long Ball Sally?
I can’t remember the last we tried to play so many long balls in a single match. It’s a crime. I fail to see the point in having your defense do all the supplying when you have some excellent passers in your midfield. It looks horrible and serves no end product. So why insist on it?

Speaking of which, they (midfield, picture reference) looked pretty much lost out there, like they had no purpose whatsoever. As if there was this massive gap between our defense and attack lines which served no real purpose but to collect a few rebounds here and there. Defense-wise: even worse. Somehow our players always stood yards away from the opposition thus allowing absolute freedom for them to create and threaten at will. There’s literally no names to point here as looked poor both individually and as a team.

One bright thing might be…what was it..oh yeah. Niko Kovac got himself on the score sheet again. Twice actually, but the second one had the O.G. stamped next to it. That’s Oh God.

Seriously though, it’s nice when your midfielders score a couple, but what’s worrying is when your attacker fail to produce. And if I’m not mistaken, this was 4th game in a row our strikers were on strike. THAT’S how much we miss Eduardo.

I’ll spend a few hours meditating on what positives can we take from this game. I’m sure some highlights will be available soon as well. In the meantime: NO OPTIMISM ALLOWED.
Trespassers will be shot. Or bored to death with long balls.

I can only insist on believing that Bilic manufactured this performance on purpose, to give his Group B opponents false hope in advance of the EURO. And yes, while he SAID there were going to be no secrets and the team against Hungary would be the team he starts with, maybe it’s all a red herring and he’s just playing mind games with his opposing coaches?

One can only hope…otherwise we may be in trouble…

Maybe Bilic really meant this would be the starting lineup, but he forgot to say that he was just using this game to play a tactical homage to Enland.
