An Interesting Comparison

Some interesting data I’ve borrowed from Transfermarkt.de :

According to their data, we are apparently the 10th most expensive team in Europe today, with a summed up value of 127.000.000 €. Now compare that with data on our Group B rivals and you get the following:

Germany (20 players) - 205.500.000 €
Croatia (24 players) - 127.000.000 €
Poland (32 players) - 75.700.000 €
Austria (31 players) - 52.275.000 €

Keep in mind those numbers in brackets. Our opponents still haven’t named their EURO squads, so I think Transfermarkt just summed up all the possible players Poland and Austria coaches might include in their lists. No idea why there’s only 20 German players though.

Looking at average player value, list goes like this:
Germany - 10.275.000 €
Croatia - 5.291.667 €
Poland - 2.365.625 €
Austria - 1.686.290 €

16 Austrians = Ballack? That’s just evil.

Note that our most expensive player is of course Modric with 18.000.000 €, followed by Corluka and Srna, both at 11.000.000 €. I think Eduardo would be somewhere in there as well, but sadly he’s removed due to his injury. Highest rated German is Ballack with 26.000.000 €, followed by Klose and his 23.000.000 €. Boruc leads the Polish with 11.000.000 € and Roland Linz comes out on top for Austria with 5.500.000 €.

All this makes an interesting comparison, as there’s an obvious gap between the sides. Anyone betting the final table will end up looking like these above?

Queen2Oh, in case you were wondering, a certain nation (no names this time) with players valued at 362.250.000 € total, was actually polite enough to have countries of 5x lesser values take its place instead. How noble of them. I’m sorry, it’s just that it’s my obligation to tease them (still no names mind you). I promise I’ll be more subtle next time.

@AJ:
Yes, seems Ronaldo is the highest rated European. Kaka and Messi are both also at €55m, but I guess we won’t be seeing them play this summer. It’ll be interesting to see how some of these ratings go up and down depending on how certain players perform.

@Denis S:
I never “said” it’s England, though I won’t deny it either :)

Mario, write an article telling people how Croatia is different from other national teams…I seriously think we have something special on our side, it might be the pride, or maybe passion. But whatever it is it seriously sets us apart from the rest…we seem closer together as a team then other teams in my opinion. I dunno wut do you think?

@ Denis:
I’ll definitely write something on that, thanks for bringing it up.
I’m sure everyone who’s come across our fans will agree that they’re as loud, passionate and devoted as they come. As for our team, I definitely agree there’s some chemistry in there that helps us perform above everyone’s expectations. I’ll write a thing or two don’t worry, and thanks again for your comment :)

Interesting,
We’re the 10th most expensive european team and are usually ranked near 10th by FIFA…strange coincidence.
